The Prince Albert: Impressing diners and drinkers since 1866

If you are looking for a leisurely weekend brunch, there are a multitude of options in London, but few are as well located as the Prince Albert. I don’t necessarily mean it is easy to get to, but it is on the western edge of Battersea Park with a relaxing view of the greenery of the park and within a short walk of the Grade II listed Albert bridge.

The pub and dining room has calming, rustic charm: it’s the kind of space you would happily spend hours chatting with your loved ones, sampling craft beer and modern British food before heading over to Battersea Park for a peaceful stroll. The Prince Albert interior

They have the traditional Sunday roast offerings with their “Roast fit for a King” particularly enticing with mixed roast of British beef, roast chicken and Dingly Dell pork. However, for those diners tired of heavy meaty options; there are plenty of alternatives.

Severn & Wye salmon is a classic dish using the best of British ingredients: gin to cure the salmon and the addition of kale pesto and crème fraîche makes it an ideal summer starter. The Prince Albert - salmon dish

Many diners have tried squid ink linguine, but most have probably not tried squid ink spelt. Their unusual take on the traditional seafood risotto dish uses this healthy ingredient, which is well-known to be high in nutrients such as vitamin B2 and magnesium. I was hoping the scallops might be more plump, but perhaps it was unnecessary given the plethora of ingredients on top of the spelt, including chorizo, monkfish, cockle popcorn and samphire. It really shows a kitchen always ready to modernise instead of just churning out the same dishes year after year. After all they have been established since 1866.The Prince Albert - seafood spelt

They have traditional desserts like sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie mousse, but also modern varieties like coconut milk pudding with mango jelly. However, sometimes guests just want a simple dessert and it was pleasing to find they offered the archetypal British summer offering: strawberries and cream. The Prince Albert - strawberries and cream

With a clean, spacious and modern outdoor terrace, expect the Prince Albert to be a hugely popular destination especially over the summer season. In fact when we visited for Sunday lunch, most of the tables were filled up very rapidly as the afternoon wore on. Book now and enjoy the charms of the Prince Albert.
