Enjoy the Fabulous Adventures of 698B via Tabl

Are you bored with going to the same restaurants and having the same type of food every week? Well the rapid rise of supper clubs over the last few years have meant a plethora of choices for demanding Londoners. One of the best sites to discover new pop-up kitchens and those “secret” supper clubs all your friends seem to go to and you never get invited along is via the site tabl. We will be reviewing a few of the regular supper clubs on offer from tabl to help you take the plunge into the world of supper clubs.

It isn’t the best named supper club ever: the fabulous adventures of 698B, although it clearly is something personal to the geniuses behind the idea as I’ve been told 698B refers to their home address. Guillaume and Maja are on a mission to open their first restaurant and have been using this supper club as a launch pad for their ultimate goal.

The amuse-bouche was a summery, floral presentation of cod in filo pastry and a vegetarian radish option. You can tell straight away Guillaume has been classically trained in plate presentation from top restaurants, as this wouldn’t be what you expect from a home-cooking supper club.698B supper club - cod filo pastry and radish

The sunny weather theme was evident throughout most of his menu, as the starter of funky tomatoes, asparagus, basil and hazelnut was a best of offering from a typical British summer garden. Even though he might not have access to restaurant quality suppliers, he doesn’t shirk from the responsibilities of using top quality ingredients.698B supper club salad

Mackerel escabeche was fresh and well marinated with the right amount of acidic to remove the fishiness from even the skin of the mackerel. The dish was complemented well with sour cream and pickled shallots.

The Lancashire pink and pulled pork was ideally judged in terms of the taste, as the cider sauce matched supremely well with the pork meat along with broad bean and gently charred baby gem. Although the meat did look more medium than pink.698B supper club pork

The dessert was simply the pièce de résistance of the night; along with funky tunes, Guillaume and Maja magically work on their dessert masterpieces in front of your eyes on the table. No amount of words can simply do the experience any justice.
