Best pubs in London, British pub hidden in Bloomsbury

By Matt

This classic British pub which has been around since 1627 is independently run in Bloomsbury with a variety of seating, nooks and crannies to suit most drinking and eating habits, including booths, sofas, a pool table, a dining table for up to 22 people, and even a giant Connect4! If you’re looking for the best pubs in London, look no further.

The owners pride themselves on tasty home-made food and their regularly changing cask ales on four hand pumps, including guest and seasonal brews which are Cask Marque approved.

The pub features a central bar with plenty of space to accommodate groups and parties from 2 to 150 people.

Children and well-behaved dogs are also welcome.

Buying ethical, locally sourced food is important to the owners.  They use traceable, sustainable seafood, free-range British meat and organic eggs, and buy their meat from Theobalds Butcher (McKanna Meats) and IMS of Smithfield; their fish from The Upper Scale of Billingsgate Market; and their fruit and vegetables from Solice of New Covent Garden Market.

The kitchen is open from 12pm to 3pm and 6pm to 10pm and the menu changes every week.

Lunchtimes can be busy, particularly on Fridays, so booking is advisable. They have tables that can seat from 1 to 22 people and are happy to reserve areas of the pub for larger groups up to 50 people.

The pub is available for private hire at weekends and provides the perfect venue that can be adapted to suit any group size up to 150 people.

With a 1am licence and central location (5-10 minutes walk from Russell Square, Chancery Lane and Farringdon stations, 15 minutes from Kings Cross and with various night bus stops close by), access is easy for your guests.

They have a decent in-house sound system into which you can plug your iPod or laptop, or they can put you in touch with a sound specialist if you prefer CD or vinyl decks.

There is no hire fee for the pub, only a reasonable minimum spend (see below).
