When visiting or living in London, it can be important from time to time to escape the city bustle. And if you have children, it can become slightly claustrophobic in the capital, despite the vast array of parks. A visit to Battersea Park Children’s Zoo is a great way to keep the children entertained, whilst also getting a little bit of peace for yourself at the same time.
Located just south of the River Thames, the Zoo is in walking distance of Battersea Park station, or alternatively you can cross over from the North via either the Chelsea or the Albert Bridge. The zoo is open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, from 10am – 5.30pm in summer and 10am-4.30pm (or dusk) in winter, and at just £8.75 for adults and £6.50 for children, the prices are very reasonable. In the zoo itself, there are a vast collection of animals and activities to keep everyone entertained 
throughout the day. You can marvel at the monkeys and the meerkats or sneer at the snakes and snails. There are lemurs and lovable ponies to ride – just the ponies that is. You can even adopt an animal and, although you can’t take it home with you, this can be a great way to teach your kids about the importance of nurturing life. It can also be a good excuse to make visits to the zoo a more regular family outing.
As well as simply looking at some interesting animals, the zoo is also committed to educating children about British wildlife and the importance of conservation. There are regular workshops and the zoo is supported on such initiatives by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES). Overall, a trip to the Battersea Park London Zoo can be a great way for both children and adults to escape the city for a day, see some interesting animals and learn more about the importance of everything else that shares this planet with us.
